I'm pretty proud of this one! I've wanted to make the Wooden Sword from Twilight Princess for a long time and I'm glad that it's finally finished. Twilight Princess is one of my favorite Legend of Zelda games and I always liked the look of the Wooden Sword. I started this over a year ago and only ever got the basic shape cut out at the time. But while I was recording a Let's Play of Twilight Princess HD with friends, it rekindled my desire to get this project finished.

It's made out of two pieces of 3/4 in. Poplar pieces laminated together to get the thickness I wanted. I didn't want it to be so flat, so I used the belt-sander in my school's shop back when I was still in school for Theatre to give it some more depth. You can see what I mean in the second and fourth pictures. I then started the final shaping/carving with my Dremel and rounded over each 'edge' and carve in the angles near the handguard area. After final shaping and sanding was done, the whole thing got covered in a Walnut stain. Then it got 2 coats of Satin Wipe-on Polyurethane.

After the 2 coats of poly were fully cured, I tried something new. I bought some milk paint to paint the handle and pattern on the 'blade.' I wanted to try milk paints because it's supposed to give a more worn and antique look to things. And I'd like to think it did! Milk paint does require a few coats to look more opaque though. But after I got the color I wanted I gave the painted sections a quick and rough sanding to help along the worn look. And then the whole sword got another 3 coats of Wipe-on Poly.

While I like the results, I kind of wish I had put the milk paint on before the first coats of wipe-on poly. I think it would have preserved the look of the wood grain under the paint. Other than that, I love how the rest of the wood grain pops on the rest of the sword.

Materials: 3/4 Poplar wood, Milk Paint.

Awesome! If I will be the lucky winner I will give it to my friend, he's a huge Legend of Zelda fan and it will go nicely with his collection. :D
